CBD gummies next to a cannabis leaf.

By 2025, the global market for cannabidiol (CBD) is expected to reach $23.6bn in revenue. North America continues to lead the market with 40% of the global CBD market share.

The future of CBD products is looking more promising than ever. A simple Google search will tell you just how saturated the CBD market is. It would take you days to familiarise yourself with all the different CBD products available.

People take CBD for a variety of reasons. Some use it to offset anxiety and depression. Others find CBD helps to reduce inflammation and joint stiffness.

Research on the benefits of CBD is growing, too. The more research, the more popular CBD appears to become. It doesn’t take a scientist to determine that CBD isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Not all CBD is created equal though. With three main types of CBD and a multitude of ways to consume them, it can be helpful to know how your CBD products are made and what CBD products sell the most.

From edibles to tinctures to pre-rolls, and even non-alcoholic drinks, there’s a CBD product available to suit everyone’s needs.

Do you want to start using CBD but aren’t sure what the current best-selling CBD products are? Don’t worry, we’re here to help.

Learn more about what CBD products sell the most to help make your decision that little bit easier.

What CBD Products Sell the Most?

Did you know 33% of American adults have used CBD more than once? That’s according to a recent survey looking at CBD and its potential health benefits.

The same survey also found that CBD user demographics skew young.

  • 20% of people ages 18-29 use CBD
  • 16% of people ages 30-49 use CBD
  • 11% of people ages 50-64 use CBD
  • 8% of people age 65 and older use CBD

Among this younger demographic, they found that nearly 50% of CBD users prefer oils/tinctures, topicals, and gummies. However, it did note that edibles were steadily gaining popularity.

  • 18% are interested in capsules or tablets
  • 18% liked topical sprays
  • 17% are interested in CBD-infused food, such as chocolate
  • 13% are interested in vaping products
  • 12% are interested in soap
  • 11% liked the idea of CBD drinks (no alcohol)
  • 9% showed a liking toward CBD bath bombs and salts
  • 8% showed interest in skincare products
  • 8% want patches

While CBD shows plenty of promise when it comes to treating and reducing a great deal of physical and mental ailments, it’s not always a one-size-fits-all remedy.

Luckily, there are so many popular CBD brands on the market, there’s bound to be something for everyone.

What Are the Different CBD Products on the Market?

More and more people are turning to CBD to relieve their health concerns. With this increased consumer demand, the CBD product market is expanding rapidly.

More brands are turning their attention to the CBD industry, creating more products and more competition.

This is great for you, the consumer.

There are four main types of CBD products that you may already be familiar with. They are CBD tinctures, capsules, topicals, and edibles.

Let’s take a look at each of these best-selling CBD products and the pros and cons of each.

CBD Tinctures

People often use CBD oil and CBD tincture interchangeably. Although they have similar appearances and uses, they are different products.

CBD tinctures are alcohol-based solutions. Manufacturers have to soak cannabis in high-proof alcohol, usually ethanol. Although they often have quite a bitter taste.

To mask the bitterness, tinctures are often mixed with additives such as sweeteners and flavoring.

Despite the difference between CBD oil and tinctures, the terms are often used interchangeably.

CBD tinctures are measured in drops and can be added to almost any food or drink, including coffee, tea, soup, baked goods, and smoothies.

Although some prefer to take it sublingually, meaning under the tongue.

Pros:

  • A more efficient delivery system
  • Enters the bloodstream faster than a capsule
  • Widely available
  • A broad range of health and mental wellbeing benefits
  • Easy to use

Cons:

  • Can be expensive for high-quality CBD oil
  • Uncertain quality due to unregulated industry
  • May cause drowsiness
  • Works differently for each person
  • Side effects include diarrhea, fatigue, changes in appetite and weight

CBD Capsules

CBD capsules are oral capsules that deliver CBD to the body through the digestive system. People take CBD capsules for a variety of conditions, from stress and anxiety to inflammation and epilepsy.

Not all supplements are created equal. When you shop for CBD capsules here are some key identifiers of a high-quality product:

  • Organic
  • Full-spectrum
  • Includes enough CBD (no sprinkling!)
  • Free from necessary fillers, sugars, and synthetic colors or flavors

Many people choose CBD capsules because they know they are receiving an accurate and measured dosage. They’re easy to swallow and are slow-releasing, meaning they have a longer-lasting effect.

Pros:

  • Ease of consumption
  • Precision dosing
  • Convenience
  • No mess, no taste
  • Slower metabolization

Cons:

  • Not targeted
  • Lower bioavailability rate than most other methods
  • Slow acting
  • Includes other ingredients, not always natural

CBD Topicals

A CBD topical is any cream, lotion, balm, or salve infused with CBD that is applied directly to the skin.

For muscle or joint pain, a CBD cream is particularly helpful as it is absorbed into the skin. It’s important to note that this technique is much different from ingesting or inhaling CBD.

When CBD is absorbed into the skin, it does not enter the bloodstream. Instead, it connects with other cannabinoid receptors through the skin pores.

Aside from pain, CBD topicals can aid in relaxation and may also benefit certain skin disorders, such as acne. Athletes who engage in a lot of exercises may use CBD salve to treat muscle soreness or dry skin.

Some CBD creams can be expensive. Consider how often you need it and what you’re willing to spend for that relief.

Pros:

  • Aids drug withdrawal
  • Allows you to spot treat localized pain and inflammation
  • No risk from drug tests
  • Can be used as often as needed
  • Lowers anxiety
  • No need to plan for the occasion

Cons:

  • It doesn’t get absorbed into the bloodstream
  • Slow onset
  • Lower CBD content
  • Develop a tolerance
  • Potential reactions to components

CBD Edibles

CBD edibles are commonly associated with brownies and cookies. They’re a delicious way to consume CBD if you’re looking to avoid inhaling or don’t enjoy CBD’s earthy taste.

While it doesn’t provide the THC “high”, CBD edibles are still packed with a ton of benefits, including:

  • Longer-lasting relief
  • Easy to make (brownies, anyone?)
  • Less risk of lung irritation
  • Allows for great plant synergy
  • Simple to dose
  • Are discreet
  • Well-tolerated with minimal side effects

Cooking with CBD is an easy, fun way to incorporate CBD into your diet. Remember that heat can lower CBD’s effectiveness, so it’s important to choose recipes that bake at 350°F or less.

Or, avoid heating CBD at all. No-bake protein balls are an excellent option.

Pros:

  • Can be made or bought
  • Better for those with respiratory conditions
  • Comes in an infinite array of options
  • Can offer prolonged pain relief
  • Is more discrete in terms of consumption

Cons:

  • Effects can take longer to kick in
  • Easy to consume too much
  • A risk of inducing psychosis when consumed too much
  • Overconsumption can lead to confusion, anxiety, and nausea

Emerging CBD Products

Tinctures, capsules, topicals, and edibles are currently dominating the market. However, there are some emerging CBD products gaining traction within the industry. CBD teas, pre-rolls, vapes, and drinks offer an alternative to tried-and-true CBD products.

Let’s take a look at some CBD products you might not be so familiar with.

CBD Tea

CBD tea is exactly as it sounds – a cup of tea with a dash of CBD.

It is a blend of beneficial herbs paired with CBD to support these benefits. As a result, CBD tea encourages relaxation and provides relief for anxiety, depression, and PTSD.

Some find drinking CBD via tea masks the bitter oil flavor of the tincture. It is also enjoyable to drink, doesn’t feel like a supplement, and is portable thanks to the lightweight teabags.

Plus, it’s easy to get your daily dose, especially if you’re already an avid tea drinker.

Pros:

  • Easy and straightforward to make
  • Doesn’t look any different than traditional tea
  • Can help relieve stress and induce a feeling of calm
  • Lower in caffeine compared to coffee
  • Can be enjoyed in a variety of flavors, including vanilla, peppermint, and chamomile

Cons:

  • Some experience dizziness, headaches, and fatigue
  • Not everyone enjoys the taste of hemp
  • Exercise caution if using CBD with any other medication
  • Doesn’t have the same absorption rate as other methods

CBD Pre-Rolls

CBD pre-rolls are pre-rolled “joints” made with CBD flower instead of recreational cannabis strains such as Sativa, Indica, and Hybrid. These strains contain high levels of THC, giving you that “high” or euphoric feeling.

While CBD pre-rolls do not get you high, they do absorb quicker than other forms of CBD such as tinctures, edibles, and capsules.

CBD pre-rolls are perfect for people who enjoy smoking hemp but are not so keen on the rolling process. Or, those who want their joints professionally rolled.

CBD smokers report this cannabinoid provides potent, almost instant, relaxation benefits. And while they’re not exactly an emerging CBD product, they are gaining popularity for those who previously associated pre-rolls with “getting high”.

Pros:

  • Nicotine-free substitute for tobacco products
  • Produces a calming effect with the capacity to reduce symptoms of anxiety and stress
  • Small traces of THC combined with CBD complement the properties of each individual element
  • Price points for every wallet
  • Instant satisfaction
  • Offers better bioavailability

Cons:

  • Has some traces of THC
  • Anyone on prescribed medicines should avoid consuming this way
  • Inhaling toxins is not healthy for the lungs
  • Unregulated industry

CBD Vapes

Many people are now choosing to use e-cigarettes as a device to consume CBD. It’s also one of the fastest ways to get its effects because it passes quickly from the lungs and into the blood.

CBD vape oils come in three forms: full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and CBD isolate. It is mixed with a carrier liquid which thins the oil. It usually comes in pre-filled cartridges screwed into the vape pen which also has a battery to heat the liquid.

It’s important to note that CBD oil and CBD “vape juice” are not the same. Here are the various types of CBD suitable for vaping:

  • CBD vape juice
  • CBD cartridges
  • High CBD strains

A typical CBD vape cartridge contains 100 mg of CBD. To work out your dosage, it’s always best to go low and slow. When you find that sweet spot, make a note and stick with it.

Pros:

  • CBD enters the bloodstream quickly
  • Convenience and discretion, available both online and in stores nationwide
  • Flavors for every plate
  • Price points for every wallet
  • Instant satisfaction
  • Offers better bioavailability

Cons:

  • Lack of research on the possible side effects
  • Can be initially expensive when buying all the items required for vaping
  • Be wary of fake CBD oil knockoffs
  • Not beginner-friendly

CBD Drinks

CBD drinks are beverages infused with CBD, the non-psychoactive element of the hemp plant. It’s an easy, delicious, and alternative way to take your CBD dose.

CBD drinks are relatively new to the market but are already available in several different flavors and formats. They include:

  • Cold-brew coffee
  • Water
  • Soda
  • Coconut water
  • Fruit juices
  • Cocktails
  • Beers
  • Wine
  • Energy drinks

CBD drinks offer a convenient method of consuming CBD. Research also suggests that drinking CBD provides longer-lasting effects. And, of course, with so many delicious flavors and formats available, you’re spoiled for choice.

As for dosage, take it low and slow. It can take as little as 20 minutes for you to feel the benefits.

Pros:

  • It’s easy to drink, needs no extra preparation
  • Kombucha-CBD drinks have antioxidant, calming, and probiotic properties
  • Improves digestion and the immune system

Cons:

  • Most brands include minimal levels of CBD
  • Minimal research has been done on the correct dosages
  • Dosages need to be monitored

CBD Pet Products

CBD products are helpful when treating not only humans but their furry friends, too.

CBD dog treats and oils are popular CBD pet products to treat panic attacks, nervousness, and/or depression. That’s because they increase the serotonin in your pet’s brain and have a calming effect.

CBD dog treats and oils can also ease inflammation and joint pain. This is especially helpful for dogs with arthritis or elbow and/or hip dysplasia, common with larger breeds.

If your dog is currently on medication, please talk to your vet before trying CBD as it can affect the efficacy of their current medication.

Pros:

  • A majority of veterinarians agree that CBD does help animals
  • Studies about CBD use in pets have had positive results
  • Pet owners report success in treating their dog with CBD

Cons:

  • CBD pet products are unregulated
  • There isn’t enough scientific evidence to support CBD for pets
  • Using CBD instead of conventional medicine may harm animals

What to Look For When Buying CBD Online?

Before purchasing CBD, there are several factors to consider. This includes the type of product, its potency, and the manufacturer or company.

For example, the key indicators of quality CBD oil have the following information on their labels:

  • Amount of CBD as an active ingredient
  • Supplement Fact Panel
  • Net weight
  • Manufacturer or distributor name
  • Suggested dosage
  • Full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, or isolate
  • Batch or date code

But this isn’t all you should consider. Here’s a quick beginner guide to buying CBD online.

Do Your Research

Purchasing any type of product online is risky, let alone CBD products. It’s not as simple as choosing a product, adding it to your cart, and checking out. When you spend your money, you want to make sure you get the benefits as advertised.

To do this, you need to do some research. As we know, CBD is still a largely unregulated industry. This means companies can label almost any product as ‘CBD’ when it isn’t.

So, when you buy CBD online you should only ever buy from companies who:

  • Use independent third-party lab tests
  • Are willing to disclose the results of these lab tests

You should be able to view these third-party lab results under the product description tab on the company website.

Anyone concerned about CBD interacting with other medications should speak with a doctor or healthcare provider.

Understand CBD Labels

A 2017 study found that 26% of CBD products contained less CBD than advertised. Perhaps more concerning was the 21% of products that contained higher levels of THC than advertised.

In response, CBD manufacturers began providing a certificate of analysis (COA) to instill buyer confidence. COAs can be difficult to decipher, but it is a document from an accredited third-party lab confirming your CBD product meets advertised specifications.

The COA will detail the chemical analysis of a CBD product. To view the COA, you can scan the QR code printed on the CBD product. The QR code is an added security measure to ensure the lab result is genuine.

Don’t purchase any products that do not have a COA. This is to ensure your safety and to reduce non-compliant CBD products circulating the market.

Seek Out Online Customer Reviews

Customer reviews are often tell-tale signs of a product’s quality. The same goes for CBD products. Check out the consumer reviews on the company’s official website.

More often than not, you can trust their opinions.

However, if you can’t find any negative reviews, look elsewhere. A company that blocks negative or even tepid reviews isn’t a company worth engaging with.

Also, be wary of companies who create their reviews to gain an advantage in the market. Some are easy to spot, while others are a little more sophisticated.

A few tips to identifying fake reviews include:

  • Ignoring over-the-top and highly exaggerated comments
  • Avoid reviews with repetitive wording
  • Take testimonials with a grain of salt
  • Trust imperfect reviews
  • Use third-party review sites

Know Your CBD Product Budget

Depending on what you’re after, CBD products can be expensive. Almost 44% of regular CBD users spend between $20–$40 per month on CBD products.

One of the biggest reasons CBD is expensive is because of the difficulty of growing hemp, extracting cannabinoids, and distributing products.

Of course, CBD’s growing popularity is also causing prices to rise. However, there are still plenty of ways to reap the benefits of CBD while on a budget.

Here are a few helpful tips on how to enjoy high-quality CBD without breaking the bank:

  • Look for CBD brands new to the market
  • Look for sales and exclusive deals
  • Take CBD as needed
  • Ask for samples (although not common when purchasing online)
  • Do your research and compare prices

Once you know what CBD products work for you, plan to set aside some money each month. That way, you don’t get caught out when your CBD stock is low.

Avoid Hemp Seed Oil

This is an easy trap to fall into. When buying CBD online, ensure you’re not buying hemp seed oil.

Why? Because hemp seed oil and CBD are not the same things, despite coming from the same cannabis family.

CBD oil comes from the flowers, leaves, and stems of the cannabis plant. While hemp seed oil is made by cold-pressing the seeds of the hemp plant. It contains little to no CBD.

The FDA is continuing to monitor and warn companies falsely advertising CBD products. However, it still pays to do your own investigative digging.

The easiest way to avoid falling into the trap is by checking the ingredient list. Hemp seed oil will be listed as cannabis Sativa seed oil. While CBD will be listed as cannabidiol, full-spectrum hemp, or hemp oil.

Check for Business Transparency

Transparency builds trust and makes consumers feel that they’re purchasing from a company with higher ethical standards. It also ensures customer expectations are met, thus boosting the company’s customer retention.

Companies build transparency by:

  • Solidifying their core values
  • Being upfront about pricing
  • Building honesty
  • Openly sharing information about their company
  • Constantly evolving

The majority of CBD companies are not hesitant to explain the cultivation process of hemp plants. If you still have questions or need clarification, don’t hesitate to contact them.

An honest business should be 100% upfront about its manufacturing process, including whether or not it employed chemicals at any point of the growing process.

Effectiveness

More often than not, companies adjust the CBD potency of their products because it allows them to provide various product options. If you’re new to CBD, you should start with a lower dose and increase it every day until you get a sense of how a small dose affects you.

The effectiveness of CBD also depends on how you use it. Ideally, you want a method that is absorbed directly into your bloodstream.

For example, the most effective method of consumption is sublingually-administered CBD. It has the highest and fastest absorption rate of cannabidiol. That’s because you take it under the tongue.

While CBD products such as edibles have to go through the digestive tract before you can properly absorb them. By the time that happens, the amount that ends up in your system may be relatively low.

What Are the Most Common Reasons for Using CBD?

Most people assume CBD is used for pain and inflammation only. While it’s one of the most popular reasons why people use CBD, it’s not the only one.

1. It’s Completely Legal

CBD oil is derived from the cannabis plant but does not contain the psychoactive substance THC, or only very small traces of it. That means you won’t get high.

2. Can Help Relieve Anxiety

Americans are suffering from anxiety more than ever. CBD offers a natural and simple remedy for your anxiety, including social anxiety, OCD, and PTSD.

3. May Help With Insomnia

Do you have trouble sleeping? A few drops of CBD oil under your tongue before you go to bed might help you to drift off and enjoy a most restful night’s sleep.

4. Effective in Treating Pain Conditions

CBD can be beneficial for those suffering from pain linked to inflammation. It has proven to be an effective treatment for conditions such as arthritis and rheumatic pain.

5. Excellent to Use After Exercise

After a grueling workout, you can usually feel your muscles begin to tense. If you don’t want to be limping around for the next few days, CBD oil can help. You might also like to apply CBD cream to the area for targeted relief.

6. The Perfect Pick-Me-Up in the Morning

If your coffee doesn’t perk you up, try adding a couple of drops of CBD oil. This is a great way to enjoy the benefits of CBD oil in the morning without leaving you too relaxed.

7. And the Best Way to End Your Day

After a long day at work, going to sleep is easier said than done. If you struggle to forget about the day’s events, CBD oil can help you calm your anxiety and help you feel sleepy.

8. There Are So Many Ways You Can Try It

CBD oil isn’t the only way to enjoy CBD. You can also enjoy CBD as a capsule, gummy, cup of tea, topical lotion, a brownie, and even a tall glass of kombucha! The possibilities are endless!

Frequently Asked Questions

CBD is often misunderstood, but we’re working to clear up some of these misconceptions. Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions you may have on CBD. If you still can’t find what you’re looking for, feel free to contact us

What Is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a chemical found in the Cannabis sativa plant. CBD does not contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive ingredient found in marijuana. CBD is often formulated as an oil but is it also sold as an extract, a vaporized liquid, and an oil-based capsule.

How Does CBD Work?

Like other cannabinoids, CBD works by activating specific biological sensors on our brain cells, known as our receptors. This, in turn, changes how the cell behaves and the chemicals it releases.

Will CBD Make Me High?

While CBD is extracted from a cannabis plant, it doesn’t have the same ability to create the “high” that marijuana or THC does. CBD products contain little to no THC.

They have opposite effects. THC will give you that feeling of euphoria, but CBD offers a relaxing and calming effect.

Are All CBD Products the Same?

No. There are three main types of CBD products: Isolates, Full-Spectrum, and Broad-Spectrum CBD.

CBD Isolate only contains CBD. Broad-Spectrum CBD contains all cannabinoids and plant compounds apart from THC. Full-Spectrum CBD contains all of the cannabinoids and other plant compounds.

Is CBD an Illegal Substance?

CBD is legal in all 50 states. However, the law is different from state to state. State laws dictate what type of CBD product is legal and how you can legally consume the product.

For example, in Wyoming, CBD oil products are legal so long as it comes from hemp and contains less than 0.3% THC. And, in New York, legalized medical marijuana and CBD products are approved for use by the FDA.

How Old Do I Need to Be to Buy CBD?

With proper identification, you may be able to purchase CBD at age 18. Most online stores will require you to verify your age, too. If you buy CBD products from a dispensary, you will more likely have to be 21.

How Much Does CBD Cost?

Cost depends on what product you’re buying and of what quality. Generally speaking, you can expect prices to range from about $0.05 to $0.30 per ml of CBD. However, prices outside of this range are not uncommon.

Do I Need a Prescription for CBD?

No, you do not need a prescription for the use of CBD as long as the CBD comes from hemp. Legal CBD products can only contain THC trace amounts of 0.3% or less.

The Farm Bill of 2018 specifies that hemp is classified as cannabis as long as it has a THC content of 0.3% or less.

What Are the Health Benefits of CBD?

CBD offers its consumers a variety of benefits, such as reducing pain and inflammation. Its healing properties can provide relief from:

  • Symptoms related to some mental health disorders (i.e., depression and anxiety)
  • Certain cancer-related symptoms
  • High blood pressure
  • Acne and other skin-related ailments
  • Drug use and withdrawal
  • Epilepsy
  • Insomnia
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Poor appetite
  • Glaucoma
  • Muscle spasms

Does CBD Have Any Side Effects?

All types of medications carry risks. Although it’s often well-tolerated, CBD can sometimes cause dry mouth, diarrhea, reduced appetite, fatigue, and drowsiness. It may also interact with other medications you’re taking.

If you have any questions about dosage or products, it’s best to first talk with your doctor.

Will CBD Show on a Drug Test?

CBD shouldn’t show up on a drug test. That’s because drug tests do not screen for CBD as it is not an illegal controlled substance.

Certain CBD products may contain some amount of THC. However, this amount is insignificant and most likely will not be included in a standard drug screen for THC.
